The West Elgin Fire Department operates 2 Stations with approximately 35 on-call Firefighters. The Officer compliment includes a Fire Chief, 2 District Chiefs, Captains and a Fire Prevention Officer.

The firefighters proudly protect over 5000 residents within 322 square kilometers of Elgin County. West Elgin is a rural community with two villages, Rodney and West Lorne, several hamlets and the Lake Erie shoreline. Port Glasgow has a vibrant marina and beach area. Agricultural businesses include field & specialty crops as well as raising livestock.

WEFD provides a wide range of services including fire suppression, public education and motor vehicle collision response. Aldborough Public School, St. Mary’s Catholic School, and West Elgin Secondary School are also protected by our Fire Department, along with 18 kilometers of Highway 401. We are an active member of the Elgin County Mutual Aid Association.

We are currently recruiting Probationary Firefighters for Rodney and West Lorne Stations and invite West Elgin Municipality residents to apply, preferably with daytime availability.

ALL NECESSARY TRAINING IS PROVIDED

We Require

18 years and older
Live or work in the Municipality of West Elgin
First Aid/CPR/Medical training (within 1 year of recruitment)
DZ License (have or obtain within 1 year of recruitment)
Medical clearance from a physician (due upon recruitment offer)
Successful physical agility test
Police Vulnerable Sector Check (due upon recruitment offer)
Satisfactory MTO driver's abstract (due upon recruitment offer)
NFPA 1001 Firefighter Certification — Levels 1 & 2 (obtain within 1 year of recruitment)
Live or work in the Municipality of West Elgin
Commitment to regularly attend training and respond to calls
